Red Blazer Skort Combo

Gap Red Blazer Kate Spade Purse

Another way I wear my Must-Have Skater Skort from Forever 21 is with a red blazer from the Gap, a fun t-shirt from Forever 21 and a black Kate Spade. I love this look because it adds a strong pop of color. Scientifically speaking adding red to your outfit gets you noticed more by guys ladies, so if that’s what you’re after this outfit is a good-choice for you! The look is also professional (the blazer) yet girly (the skort) which can be a hard combination to come. I’ve found that mixing up which shoes you wear with this look totally alters the type of event you can wear it to, I personally like to wear my white Keds with this look but there’s nothing stopping you from wearing heels or wedges. I added red lipstick because it went with the outfit and it really polishes the look overall in my opinion, however normally I am very careful about red lipstick because I’m so pale it’s a little hard for me to pull off.

Must Have Skater Skort

BlackGirly

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a dress, this is actually a Forever 21 Must-Have Skater Skort with a cute, part lace top from Kaitlyn (closer look at the lace detail in photo below). I love the skort because I can wear it out and not worry about it being delicate to dance in. It really is the best of both shorts and a skirts!  You’ll be seeing me pair this skort with tons of different looks on the blog this coming week, it’s such an affordable buy and one that you can pair with a variety of looks!

Cable’s Swan Song

One very clear trend I have seen, among my peers, who are just now renting their first apartments is that everyone is opting out of getting cable. When did cable die? I grew up on cable, and it wasn’t always about television shows, it was about the news and interviews with influential world figures. Then I got busy with school, completing college applications, and not getting home until 11 pm each night. I stopped watching television because television stopped fitting into my schedule.

Then I went to college and for four years and I was constantly busy, and the only television shows I had time to watch were the ones that were recorded on the television in my sorority house. I did not follow shows on a regular basis, I would watch one or two episodes every now and then when someone else was playing a recording.

Upon graduation, is it any wonder then that I opted out of paying for cable? For arguably the previous eight years of my life television had been utilized less and less. My situation is not universal, there are some who have had a completely opposite experience, for example one girl in my sorority kept a spreadsheet of her favorite shows and the times they aired so she could follow each one of them. However, she was the only friend I had who was so devoted to following her shows.

At dinner with friends post-graduation, the topic of television and shows always comes up and the conversation always comes back to what channel or subscription service we watch everything on. Most of my friends have chosen to stick with Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Instant over traditional cable. When we have a discussion of world events we are citing articles online, not our nightly news as our sources.

There has become a separation of fiction and nonfiction. During the day, we are reading articles on the web. We are getting to those articles from our social media networks most of the time, twitter. At night, when we are home and trying to relax we are following the latest television drama on Netflix. It’s comforting in most respects to view genres and be able to select whether we want to laugh, cry, or be terrified for the next 90 minutes of our life. That’s something you don’t always get to pick during the day, in the news. It’s about control and now we are able to control the content we watch, down to the speed at which we watch it.

It was no surprise then when earlier this week I learned of the Supreme Court agreeing to hear the Aereo case. There has been a lot of speculation on the part of journalists and myself as to what this could mean for cable networks. Is this case cable’s swan song?

While I’ll have to wait some time before getting my answer to that question, I leave you with this infographic (via Business Management Degree) which portrays an interesting battle.  If all of the twenty-somethings and I start switching over will the battle come between subscription services like Amazon and Netflix?

My Favorite Forever 21 Skirt

Night Out Forever 21 Skirt

Going out for a friend’s birthday tonight so I picked out a Forever 21 skirt, Gap shirt, and Forever 21 necklace I got on sale to wear. I LOVE this skirt because it has so many colors I can pair it with and they are mostly bright. I’m opting for combat boots with this because we’ll be out dancing most of the night but normally I would pair it with my gold wedges. Hope you all are having a great night as well!

It’s all in the accessories…

Accessories can make or break and outfit. I love pairing a more complex outfit with these light Sam & Libby flats I got from Target. They are basic enough to go with everything, but they have a little character to them with the fake snake skin look to them.

jewelry

Jewelry also really compliments an outfit. For this one I chose these cute bracelets that are stacked together. I love that they, just like my shoes, are basic enough to go with almost anything, but they have a little charm which gives them character!

Spring Outfit

Last, but not least I wore these with a skirt I got a boutique a few years ago, a Forever 21 belt, and a cute detailed top from Kaitlyn, a small chain of stores on the West coast.

Bright Colored Hoodie

Unisex Fleece Hooded Sweatshirt Canvas

I’m in love with my newest hoodie from ClothingShopOnline.com. I wanted a bright, comfy hoodie and they had the perfect one from Canvas for just $13.49! It’s super soft even after a few washes and it’s bright enough to wear with a cute outfit without looking like I’m in loungewear. I suggest getting one or two or three…can you tell I’m crazy about it? It’s unisex too so you can totally loan it to one of your guy friends to wear for the night without hearing them complain about it being a girl’s sweatshirt. Obviously I would suggest a less bright color for a guy, for instance, I also have this one in gray as well. I’m hoping to get the pink one for myself soon.
